What Are the Common Causes of Window Failure?

It can be very frustrating if your windows and doors are not functioning as expected. In most cases, some signs may suggest that the windows and doors need repair. Some of these signs include a spike in your energy bill, heat loss from home, etc. If these signs are ignored, the problem may become an extensive one, resulting in unplanned expenses. If you observe a problem with your windows, here are some of the possible reasons.

· Outdated Design

If your window happens to be one with an old design that lacks the modern technological improvements of the new ones, you may likely have problems. In recent times, windows are designed to make them durable and resilient to different weather elements. A good example is the special coating that comes with glass windows to prevent shattering when exposed to sunlight for too long.

· Poor Installation

Improper installation can cause window failure, which is usually very noticeable when the windows have been newly installed. Installation can be a very challenging process because it requires the proper tools and special skills. Any form of error in the installation process ultimately results in window failure.

· Extreme Weather Conditions

Window materials tend to extract when it is hot and also contract when cold. During this expansion and contraction, the shape of the window materials may not return to their original form. This shrinkage can easily wear out your window and result in different problems.

· Dampness due to water damage

One of the quickest ways through which window failure occurs is when high humidity resulting from water leakage. High humidity can result in moisture buildup and compromise the structural integrity of your window. Always inspect the areas around your window for water infiltration. Additionally, if there is condensation on your window, you should always wipe it with a dry cloth.

· Accidental Damage

Glass windows are more susceptible to accidental damages than other types of window materials. Most times, you cannot prevent these accidents, and you may have to bear the burden of repairing the window. A damaged or broken window will result in a spike in the energy bill, compromise safety, and loss of efficiency.

· Poor Maintenance

To ensure that you enjoy your window for a long time is to take proper care of it. With the right care and maintenance, you can easily spot early problems with your window and get it fixed as soon as possible. Before cleaning your windows, ensure you use the right tools and chemicals to avoid damaging the window materials.

There are other reasons why your window might break down, and the important thing is to detect the problem early before the problems become an extensive one. Hiring a window and doors expert to inspect your windows once every month will be an excellent idea.
