Many attic spaces have been left empty or unutilized for numerous reasons. But if you’ve made up your mind about redecorating your old attic into a loft, there are plenty of things you can do to improve the way it looks. Depending on your wants and needs, you can create a working space, playroom, or even a guest bedroom. However, before you start with any renovations, you should make sure the roof has been waterproofed and insulated to avoid any misfortunate accidents.

So, if you’re still undecided about what to do with this space, we have a couple of ideas for you. Take a look.

Guest Bedroom

One of the best ways to utilize the open loft space is to create a guest room. In most cases, loft spaces are not as big as the floor below, meaning there is less room to use. For that reason, an open-concept bedroom would be perfect for occupying the space, especially if you have a lot of family members and friends who like to pop in from out of town. Opt for soothing colors that will make your guests feel at ease and relaxed. While decorating, imagine that you are creating an oasis where you can sneak off if you ever need a moment of peace.

Home Office

Many of us plan to keep on working from home in the following months, so why not create a comfortable home office? Your attic could be a perfect place for this, as you will be getting plenty of sunlight during the day. Furthermore, the space is big enough to fit a desk and a chair, as well as a small resting nook. If your roof has sloping sides, we recommend purchasing made-to-measure furniture to utilize the space completely. You can also install some shelves and add books and lamps around your nook to create a warm and peaceful atmosphere.

Playroom

If you’re tired of tripping over your children’s toys in the living room, create a safe play area in the loft. Kids will love having their own space, which can lead to more independence in the future. Naturally, don’t forget to take all the preventive measures to make sure your little ones stay safe. For instance, use baby-proof systems for your windows and stairs. Also, opt for engineered bamboo flooring, as it will withstand constant movement, toy cars, rolling chairs, and other things. Plus, if you decide to redecorate the loft once your kids grow up, there will be no need to replace the floors.

Dressing Room

Owning tons of clothes and accessories isn’t a crime. However, if you cannot fit all of your dressing items in your bedroom closet, it might be time to expand your wardrobe. A completely separate walk-in closet combined with a make-up room is a perfect solution for your loft space. The awkward sloping roof will not get in the way, as you can install simple shelves and rails that fit your space. Similarly, you can set a separate space for your make-up by purchasing a vanity. Or, if you’re skillful, you can even make it yourself. The options for a dressing room are endless if you just use your imagination.

Home Library

If you’re a bookworm, you’re probably running out of shelf space in your living room. So, why not create a home library out of your loft? You can either install DIY shelves yourself or hire a professional to get the job done. Fill them up with your favorite books and some interesting objects, like vinyl records, comics, or other collectibles. Leave some room for a comfy chair or maybe a sofa. Throw some colorful pillows and a rug to keep the space vibrant. Also, don’t forget to purchase a couple of lamps for those late-night reading sessions.

Storage Space

Lastly, if your house does not require an additional room, you can always redecorate the loft for your storage needs. Instead of simply piling up things in the attic, you should create a tidy and neat space where you can organize your things. Another great idea would be to separate everything into categories, so you should probably build or order multiple storage units. Separate your Christmas decorations and winter equipment from baby clothes and your grandmother’s antiques to avoid having a messy room. Make sure to use up the entire space, including the sloping roofs.
