Regular vacuuming is a great way to keep your carpet looking clean and odorless, but it may not be enough to maintain your carpet. Ideally, you should give your rug a professional deep clean at least twice per year to remove the trapped dirt, stains, and bacteria and prolong its lifespan.

It is good to know the standard rug cleaning methods before enlisting professional rug cleaning Los Angeles.

Rug shampooing

Shampooing is one of the common ways professional carpet cleaners use. It involves using a machine connected to a shampoo tank and a cleaning solution and another one that holds the dirty water once it is eliminated. A rolling brush applies the cleaning shampoo over small sections of your rug then sucks the dirty water back into the machine.

The best thing about shampooing is that it forms lather then separates dirt from the rig fibers leaving it sparkless. But there is no rinse cycle, so the rug may end up with leftover shampoo molecules. Also, the shampooing machine may not suck out all the moisture from your carpet, so you need to dry it afterward.

Steam cleaning

Steam cleaning a rug involves applying superheated water via a high-pressure applicator. That breaks down dirt, stains, and bacteria.  The hot water also causes the rug fibers to fill back out, resulting in a fluffier and softer feeling rug than before.

The best thing about steam cleaning a rug is that it eliminates 90% of all the debris and bacteria from the carpet. It also removes allergens like pollen, fur, and dust that can cause respiratory problems. The only drawback is that the method may not remove all the moisture, so you must dry your rug afterward.

Dry carpet cleaning

Just as the word suggests, dry carpet cleaning doesn’t involve water. The rug is cleaned using a powder applied using a motorized brush for spreading the powder down to the rug’s fibers. In this method, no moisture or liquid cleaner is used. You don’t have to suffer any downtime because no water is involved. Also, it can be used on all carpet types. However, some carpet cleaning professionals doubt the effectiveness of this method because it is relatively new in the market.

Encapsulation

Encapsulation applies a liquid or foam detergent on the rug; then, it crystallizes into vacuumable powder as it dries. The dirt is suspended from the carpet fibers, encapsulated into the powder, vacuumed, and brushed for removal. The best thing about encapsulation is that it is an environmentally friendly carpet cleaning method than many other options.

Also, no chemical is left after vacuuming, and it doesn’t need many resources like water and electricity. However, it is not as effective when dealing with stubborn stains located deep in the carpet fibers.

Bonnet cleaning

Bonnet cleaning involves using a motorized machine with a spinning pad covered with a carpet cleaning solution. That sucks up all the dirt from the upper levels of the carpet. It is a quick carpet cleaning method, especially if you don’t have the time to wait for the rug to dry. However, it may not get to deep down stubborn stains.

Final words

Choose a rug cleaning method that is friendly to your rug type.
